Guerlain Verveine was created by Aime Guerlain in 1840. It was produced through the mid-1930s. It was based on Lemon Verbena. The bottle is empty. It measures approximately 4 tall. The cobalt blue of the bottle contrasting with the clear stopper is so striking. The bottle is hand polished on its base, which has a circular indentation and the raised words, “GUERLAIN PARIS FRANCE” in semicircular fashion. There is also a scratched “39” in the center. I have read that some of the earlier Baccarat perfume bottles were inscribed this way prior to the bottles being acid etched with the Baccarat name. I don’t know whether that is true for this bottle, but it seems likely because the amazing color and quality of the glass is, in my experience, very much like Baccarat. As a glass collector for many years, I recognize this as old glass. I know that there was also a limited edition made in 1999 by Guerlain called Guet-Apens, which has a very similar bottle, but I do believe this is the older Verveine. Cobalt blue bottle for Guerlain’s’Verveine’ was granted a U. Patent 100,424 in 1936. The bottle was inspired by the lights of Paris. The bottle has one small nick on the base and the stopper has one very tiny rough spot where the angles come together at the outer tip of the corner. One other corner tip looks like it was carefully and very superficially smoothed. Otherwise, in Excellent Condition.
