Im reposting a description used by one of the few previous sellers of this same type of bottle by Schiaparelli, since the writer is so very well informed, about the piece itself and the designer. However, I must credit Worthpoint where it is still online. Here it is in its entirety. Rare Christmas 1940 Shocking perfume brooch from Elsa Schiaparelli. Dram bottle of her signature perfume was inside the Scamp, a female-form shaped glass bottle with enameled face/head stopper, all encased in metal cage fencing regalia. Her sword — that’s right, the Lady is a Scamp — is the pinstem, used to attach to coat or sweater, etc. I almost wonder if the Scamp’s face was’after’ Schiap’s own. Think it looks a little like her? Her bottle-encasing metal birdcage body, including head stopper, is 2-1/2. With her arms up, holding the sword (sabre, foil or epee) aloft, she is 3-1/4. Oddly, the S label (for Shocking and for Schiaparelli) she wears on her glass bottle body is nearly perfect, protected over the decades by the metal exterior. She is listed as’signed’ in categories not just because everyone knows who she is, but also because of that S label for Shocking and Scamp and Schiap. She appears to wear two gauntlets, and her torso cover is like a plastron. Her arms are rendered as springs. The plastron or cage over her torso closes. Please read here all her defects so there is no disappointment: The perfume is long gone. Enameling is missing from her head and face. She was so well made, her sabre even has a notch in the blade (pin), and this keeps it latched when she’s standing on your desk, but only when her arms and the sword are overhead. If you bring her arms forward, she looks more like she’s saying En garde! With one arm over her head and the foil drawn and out front. In other words, her notched pin when turned toward front unlatches. She is an awesome almost-antique ad a great find for the Schiap hound, perfume or vanity collectors, fencing enthusiasts… She is one hard-to-find girl.
