Vintage Volnay, Embleme Perfume Sealed Perfume Bottle Made in France C. 1945
Vintage Volnay, Embleme Perfume Sealed Perfume Bottle – Made in France C. The oval crystal bottle appears to be ½. The fragrance was introduced in 1945. Volnay is an old perfumery that was first launched in 1919 and had 51 fragrances. After World War II Germain Madeline with her son Jean tried to bring back the business but did not have any success. Many of the perfume bottles used by the scents from this company were made by Lalique. Since this fragrance was introduced after World War II, and the perfume is named “Embleme”, I looked up what this name means, for a better understanding of the scent. The dictionary defines the word emblem (without the last e). As a symbolic representation of a particular quality or concept. In looking further at the paper label on the bottle front, it is in the shape of the country France, with a dot or circle indicative of where the town of Volnay is. Perhaps the label represents one of their last efforts to keep their business going in the perfumery business-this does seem to be the last scent they produced. The clear glass crystal bottle is oval in shape and has a lovely feel to it. The crystal over cap is polished on the top and has the mini beads going all around the side of the over cap. There are 7 layers of clear glass bands going around the bottle with the tiny, beaded decoration going all around the bottle. The condition of the paper label is fair-there is a little bit of soiling or wear to the label. The gold cording goes around the bottle neck, over the top of the over cap and underneath the paper label. I do not know if the bottle was previously opened. The bottle probably has an inner glass stopper. I have not tried to open the bottle. Due to the age of the fragrance, it may be too old to still smell good or last, I do not know. But at any point the fragrance is not guaranteed. But, sometimes there can be a surprise with the old fragrances. The coloration of the fragrance is a light gold. Bottle is probably molded, and the underside reads. I have removed the small paper sticker on bottle underside? Height of the bottle is: just under 3 ½ inches.
