Jay Thorpe the fashion designer who created 4 perfumes under the name “Jaytho”, all with Lalique bottles. They were not widely distributed and are VERY RARE to find. Here is the bottle for the first one in 1927 “Méchant mais Charmant”. Méchant Mais Charmant directly translates in French to naughty but charming. But as a phrase in common use it’s more like naughty but nice. The condition of the bottle (empty) , but has some residue shown in the pictures. It is in excellent condition with absolutely no break, crack or chip. It includes the stopper. Pictures show the condtion. It is a 7cm tall (2 3/4) with the stopper, 6cm without , slightly oval bottle entirely sculpted with tulips, with a tulip shaped stopper. The neck and the top of the bottle are asymmetrical by design. There are two signatures : R LALIQUE FRANCE under the base in raised letters and JAYTHO vertical on one of the tulips. The hand etched numbers under the base in the middle are numbers that high-end glassmakers added under each bottle and stopper to insure a perfect fit (they came from different casts). I cant tell what the hand etched number is. Méchant mais Charmant is repertoires and photographed in two important books, firstly the large Marcilhac on page 938 of the 2010 French printing under reference JAYTHO 1 (photo 10), then in the book by Marylou and Glenn Utt, “The Lalique Perfume bottles” on page 103 (photo 9). An antique Rene Lalique Jaytho perfume bottle with stopper. It is a beautiful clear and frosted embossed tulip design. Jaytho is embossed on the front of the bottle. On the bottom of the bottle “France” is embossed. On the other side something else is embossed but it cannot be read, as shown. There is also something etched into the bottom that looks like “3H” or “3W”? Please see large pictures:- This perfume was offered in 1927. This bottle has perfume inside, so it cannot be mailed outside of the USA. Height with stopper: aprox 2 3/4. The flaws to this bottle are. I dont want to try to remove it. I would love the be able to enjoy the scent of something so wonderful from this era! Small chip under lip of bottle, noticed with loop, as shown. Tiny flea bite next to chip under lip, noticed with loop. Tiny flea bites on the stopper where the stopper and bottle glass meet, as shown. The signature cannot be clearly read and is barely embossed, as shown. There is a little dust on the top of the stopper. So please feel free to ask me any questions that you may have before purchasing. Here is some information about this bottle from the internet. This is a rare, hard to find R Lalique Pensees D’Elle Jaytho perfume bottle that was also called Mechant Mais Charmant. He also opened the Jay Thorpe Department Store in NYC near 5th Ave. Rene Lalique designed 6 items for the Jaytho line but only produced 2 items. One was a 5 compartment tester and the other was this perfume bottle. This was the ONLY bottle both designed and produced by Rene Lalique in France. Please check measurements above.
