In 1925 PARIS, Marius SABINO created an OPALESCENT BLUISH GLASS using ARSENIC. The opalescent blue hue and iridescent impressions became immediately desirable. He designed everything from glass scent bottles to custom, monumental chandeliers and lighted fountains for luxury liners and grand salons. The soft opalescence was perfect for light to shine through and transform the everyday. He adorned his practical and personal objects of virtue to compliment and enhance the architecture and furniture designs of the times. Much in Art Deco. This rare delightful design, dance of nudes, was early because of subject matter and signature “Sabino Paris” (last photo). Sabino’s last designed pieces were in 1941. Many original handworked forms have been in production since. Sabino used arsenic to make the blue color. I read that in recent years, his company is using less arsenic. My photos are producing a stronger blue than the actual piece. The actual bottle has a slight blue cast so the scent bottle is likely from the late 20th century into this century.
