This vintage elaborately cut glass perfume bottle features a decorative sterling silver lid. The maker’s mark on the lid identifies it as the product of an American silversmith (it lacks the hallmarks of a British object). Traditionally, a bottle of this style was used as a perfume container or to hold scented water. The globular lead glass body with short neck is decorated with deeply cut complex pattern of mitre cut fans interspersed with cut stars. It also has a cut starburst on the bottom. The lid is composed of a glass dauber and sterling finial. The body is of substantial and heavy lead glass weighing 2 lbs. And the high refractive quality of the glass is enhanced by the cutting causing the light to play with the glass. The sterling lid’s hallmarks include the word “STERLING”, an arrow with a B through it, and production number 2287. The glass body is completely intact and measures 5″ H x 3 3/4″ W. Its condition shows some tiny use marks to the top glass rim and a few light wear marks and a bit of tarnish on the sterling lid, all gentle wear consistent with age. Today such vanity perfume bottles make excellent decorative accents for a dresser, vanity or curio cabinet.
