Sterling Silver & Glass Lachrymatory Tear Catcher / Chatelaine Perfume Bottle Vintage. This is a vintage tear catcher or lachrymatory glass vial. Could have been a perfume bottle. It has a repousse sterling silver top and a ring for attaching to a chatelaine or neck chain. The cap is marked sterling and has a floral design. The perfume bottle is 3-3/4 inches in length. With the silver top, the piece measures 4-3/8 inches in length. The glass is in very good age-related condition with a small chip on the very bottom and several small scratches throughout. Very sweet antique Art Nouveau silver plate chatelaine snuff or pill box with hinged lid, depicting a flower on the lid with a smooth underside / body of the box. I use a similar one to carry a chunk of shea butter hand balm lotion in my purse. Lovely, period appropriate Victorian design would make a neat collectible item that can be used on a daily basis – an antique gift for yourself or a friend! NO MONOGRAMS on the piece. Chain is not included but is shown to demonstrate wearability. No hallmarks, this as an antique silver plated item. In estate condition considering age and has been hand polished and cleaned up nicely. One area of plate loss on the underside about the size of a coin where a slightly warmer underlying metal comes through, but it is not the dark brown brass that is often seen so it doesn’t stand out too much. I see a few shallow indentations around the rounded side of the box along with some surface wear and scratches. The hinge is nice and tight and the lid snaps open and closed snugly. Like all my estate items – please note that while the piece is sturdy and has many years of use left, it is not in mint condition. Measures about 2 inches in diameter, the opening is about 1 5/8 inches since it flares out from there into the rounded base. It is about 5/8 of an inch tall / deep. A very decorative AND useful item! Antique 19th century French cut crystal perfume bottle or scent bottle vinaigrette with chatelaine. The bottle is of thick, quality crystal and features beautiful cut paneling and faceted edges. Encased in silver plated metal framework. Surrounded by ornate scrolling foliate and rosettes, the decoration is reminiscent of the Renaissance. Centered by a charming vignette allegorizing music. The hinged lid is topped by fine reticulated filigree. Suspended from a chatelaine hook and watch chain below. The hook features intricate foliage and a vignette with gardening implements, including a watering can, hat, scythe and trailing ivy. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, no chips or cracks to the lovely perfume bottle.
